Film as a Communication Tool

Gulnar Tabassum at the communications workshop in London.

At the workshop I met Gulnar Tabassum, a film-maker from Pakistan. She produced a film A Small Dream after receiving a 10-day WEMC-supported training in documentary film-making. She shared with me and other RPCs her experiences and how she and her colleagues used this film as an advocy and communication tool.

The film tells the story of a young Pakistani girl (Humaira Bachal) from the Moach Goth squatter settlement, Karachi, who was the only girl in her community to go to school, and decided to teach children at home the lessons she herself learnt in class. Today the Moach Goth Replication School educates over 700 students in four shifts, including adult literacy classes for young women. A Small Dream was launched on 28 March, 2009, in Lahore at the South Asia Free Media Association.

The film is available to view online through a link

    | RECOUP Blogger. And I actually do have some questions for you if it’s allright. Is it simply me or does it give the impression like some of the responses look like they are coming from brain dead individuals? 😛 And, if you are posting on other sites, I would like to keep up with everything fresh you have to post. Would you list of all of all your community sites like your Facebook page, twitter feed, or linkedin profile?
