124650140_798cde22b7_m2This blog is a new project of the Consortium that aims to distribute news, views, the research findings by the RECOUP team and comment on the issues of education and poverty in developing countries.

The blog wants to create conversations around important issues pertaining to education in the context of developing countries, including various options for financing education and their effectiveness in terms of improved educational outcomes; the social, human development and labour market outcomes of education and the poverty-reducing effects of these outcomes; the role of and impact of international aid to education sector on educational outcomes and sector efficiency, and others.   RECOUP Blogger, in a significant fraction, is about academic research in economics and finance of education, and it aims to serve as a forum to discuss current research in the field and elicit readers comments to our research findings.   Therefore, the blog mainly posts summaries of research and working papers as well as policy briefs produced by the consortium.  It is maintained by RECOUP researchers working on the six projects.

Use the links on the right to read our posts, access our partners’ websites, browse our gallery, or take a look at the RECOUP web site for our latest news and full-texts of our publications.   We would like to know your thoughts about RECOUP findings, so please leave your comments to our blogs.    Please also feel free to suggest new categories for discussion and feedback.

  2. Indeed – excellent idea. The World Bank’s Human Development Network – Education Sector (HDNED) will soon be launching an Education blog. One aspect of the blog, aptly named, ‘Is We Learning’ will focus on bridging the gap between academic research and education policy – in the hope of contributing to the growing debate and blog-sphere in this area. In addition HDNED’s blog will host blogs by other World Bank Education experts and specialists. At the moment, Mike Trucano’s blog – EduTech, also hosted by the World Bank has been live for just over a year. http://blogs.worldbank.org/edutech/.
We look forward to reading and learning more from your blogs and sharing ideas over cyberspace.

    • Dear Ruma,

Firstly, apologies for taking so long to reply–I have been trying to get myself acquainted with blogging (without much success!).
In RECOUP disability issues were a significant aspect of our quant. and qual. work. Our qualitative work was very much focused on engaging with and hearing the voices of young people with disabilities, rather than relying on the perceptions of their parents and others (as you will appreciate this is rather novel within the Indian context, where most research tends to engage with parents of people with disabilities, as the disabled are largely seen as incapable to having and/or articulating an opinion). Our research process did face a range of challenges, but we worked with a very enthusiastic team on young researchers who were keen and determined. I would suggest that you have a look at the article in Disability & Society on researching disability in the South, for a more in-depth reflection on the research process–am happy to email you a copy of this paper.
I am very interested in your study on inclusive practices which you mention–is there somewhere I could get additional information about this project? the RECOUP-DEPP study did raise some interesting issues about the experiences of young people in mainstream and special settings–an area that we would be keen to explore more systematically in the future.

Look forward to hearing from you.
      Many thanks.
      Nidhi
